The Pearl
Kino: I think for the book The Pearl Kino symbolizes hope because even when everyone is telling him to get rid of the pearl and that it will only bring destruction and hurt to his family and himself, he keeps the pearl with high hopes that it will help his family. He wants to someday get to put Coyotito in school and he wants be married to Juana in the church. Juana: Juana symbolizes sensibility for this story because even though the pearl is a very exciting and supposedly good thing, Juana is being smart and looking at the big picture, which she sees as the pearl being a problem. Neighbors: The neighbors of Kino and Juana's symbolize concern because they think tht the pearl will probably ruin Kino's family. The Doctor: The doctor symbolizes selfishness, because when Kino comes to him with a sick Coyotito, he is asked if he has money, and when he doesn't, the doctor says he can't help him. The Priest: I think the priest symbolizes curiosity because he wonders what Kino will do with the pearl's money. The Townspeople: the townpeople symbolize greed because they think about all the things they could do with the money, and they dont understand how a poor family like Kino's could be so lucky .
